Southern Utah University (SUU) cares about your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This document explains how SUU gathers, uses, and secures your data. SUU does not sell personal data, including telephone numbers, to third parties, affiliates, or partners for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in data and consent for text messaging are kept strictly confidential and are not shared with any third parties. This Website Privacy Notice is provided by SUU in compliance with Utah's Government Data Privacy Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 ( FERPA ).

Scope

This Website Privacy Notice applies to all SUU websites, affiliated websites, and domains except where a department has supplemented or superseded it.

Use of Information

When information is voluntarily provided to SUU, you acknowledge that SUU may use this data for the purpose it was provided and where permitted by federal or state law. Such purposes include but are not limited to:

Record Series/Data Retention

A "Record series" means a group of records that may be treated as a unit for purposes of designation, description, management, or disposition. Each Record series contains the retention schedule and privacy annotation. SUU retains your information for as long as needed to fulfill legal, business, and archival purposes. Keeping Your Information Secure

SUU has put in place appropriate security measures to protect your data. These measures include physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access. SUU does not intentionally release personal information gleaned from these programs to others, except as required by law.

Security Precautions You Should Take

Although SUU makes every effort to secure its networks, SUU cannot guarantee privacy of online communications. Use discretion in providing information in online classes, chatrooms, or other open forums on the Web. If you use mySUU to access personal records, be sure to "lock up" when you leave by exiting the site and closing your browser. Otherwise, the next person to use the computer may see your information.

You have a choice about whether to provide personal information online. For other options, contact the department associated with the form being completed to learn how you can provide information by phone, mail, fax or in person.

Protecting Children's Privacy

SUU encourages parents to explore its websites with their children. If SUU learns that a child under age 13 has provided personally identifiable information, SUU will promptly remove it from its data collection.
